There are superfoods, and then you go one letter further in the alphabet and find turmeric.

Turmeric is a wonder spice. It is what gives curry its yellow color, and has been found to be very high in antioxidants, which help your body fight off cells that have a risk of becoming cancerous. In fact, it actually was found to increase the overall antioxidant capacity of your body, meaning it helps us be able to store and use more antioxidants overall. (More on that study can be found on AuthorityNutrition.com). But wait – there’s more! Turmeric has been found to support brain function, help fight heart disease, arthritis, and even depression.

But unless you are lucky enough to be living in India, it’s unlikely that you’ll be enjoying turmeric-spiced foods every day. That’s where this recipe comes in. It was contributed by Scholé Yoga Collective member Angela Gertino, who shares lots of amazing vegan recipes on her @forallanimals Instagram account.  We’re thankful she shared it with us to give us an easy, delicious way to enjoy turmeric every day.

INGREDIENTS

2 cups of almond, soy or regular milk of your choice

1 tsp turmeric

½ tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp ginger powder or tiny piece of peeled fresh ginger root

1-2 tsp agave, honey or maple syrup

pinch of fresh ground pepper (helps your body absorb nutrients)

DIRECTIONS

Place all ingredients in a high powered blender and blend until smooth.

Pour the mixture into a saucepan and heat over medium/low heat until hot but not boiling.

Pour into a mug and enjoy!
